Computational Methods in Design and Manufacturing Sample

Write a program with appropriate interface that can do the following:

Read an STL file for solid models created on any CAD software. STL files contain a triangulated approximation of the boundaries of the solid that is used for graphical display or rapid prototyping.

Read an ACIS or SAT file for the solid model to obtain the topology and geometrical entities used to define a solid. Improve the given ReadSATFile class to read other geometry besides lines and planes.

Display the solid graphically using JavaFX. Provide functionality to associate the triangles in the STL file with the corresponding faces of the solid. Compute vertex normals to make geometry appear smooth. Assign individual color to each face of the solid to show that you have correctly identified the triangles associated with the faces.

Test your program with a few solids that you have created on a CAD software. Write a report that explains the program you have implemented. Describe the algorithm to display graphics and associate faces with triangles in STL. Specifically, list the types of faces you can read and associate with the corresponding triangles.
